If you are searching for solar battery installers near me, you have probably already decided that a battery makes sense for your home. The harder question is not whether to install one — it is who to trust with the job.
A home battery is a 10-to-15-year investment. The installer you choose affects your price, your warranty, your eligibility for the federal battery discount, and who turns up if something needs attention in year five.
At Solar Time Energy, we install solar batteries for homes across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Ipswich. In this guide, we explain what to check before you sign with anyone — including us.

Why “Near Me” Matters More Than You Think
Searching for a local installer is not just about convenience.
A battery is not a set-and-forget appliance. It needs correct design, correct commissioning, monitoring and occasional support over its life. Industry estimates suggest hundreds of thousands of Australian solar systems have been left “orphaned” — the company that sold them is no longer trading, and the warranty support went with it.
A genuinely local installer gives you:
- Faster support when something needs attention
- Warranty backup from a business that is easy to find
- Local experience with Energex connections, Queensland weather and local roof types
- Accountability — a local reputation is worth protecting
If a company cannot tell you where its office is, or who will answer the phone after the install, treat that as a red flag.
7 Things to Check Before You Choose a Battery Installer
1. Installer accreditation (SAA)
To claim the federal battery discount, your battery must be installed by an accredited installer. Installer accreditation in Australia is managed by Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA). Ask for the installer’s accreditation number and check that it is current.
2. Approved battery products
The battery (and inverter, where relevant) must be an approved product listed by the Clean Energy Council (CEC). We install SolaX and Sungrow battery systems — well-established brands with strong Australian support.
3. A real local presence
Ask three questions: where is your office? Who attends the site? Do you use subcontractors? A local team with in-house installers is easier to hold accountable.
4. A workmanship warranty — not just a product warranty
Battery brands cover their own hardware. That says nothing about the quality of the install. Our residential packages include a 10-year workmanship warranty, alongside the manufacturer’s product warranty.
5. An itemised quote
A clear quote should show the battery model and usable capacity, the inverter, what is included and excluded — and the federal battery discount shown as a separate line. If the discount is not itemised, you cannot tell what you are really paying.
6. VPP-capable hardware
To qualify for the federal discount, a grid-connected battery must be virtual power plant (VPP) capable. Joining a VPP is normally optional — the hardware just needs to be ready. Ask what VPP options exist and whether the terms suit you.
7. Support after the install
Ask who sets up your monitoring app, who you call if the battery shows a fault, and what response times look like. The answers should be specific.
The 2026 Federal Battery Discount at a Glance
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes roughly 30% off the installed cost of an eligible home battery, delivered as a point-of-sale discount through the STC scheme. You do not apply for it yourself — your installer applies it to your quote.
Key settings for batteries installed from 1 May 2026:
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Battery size | 5–100 kWh nominal; the discount is paid on the first 50 kWh of usable capacity |
| Current rate | 6.8 STCs per usable kWh (installs from 1 May to 31 December 2026) |
| How it tapers | 100% of the first 14 kWh, 60% from 14–28 kWh, 15% from 28–50 kWh |
| Indicative value | Roughly $2,400–$2,700 off a 10 kWh battery; $3,300–$3,600 off a 13.5 kWh battery (STC prices move with the market) |
| Other requirements | Paired with rooftop solar (new or existing); CEC-approved products; VPP-capable if grid-connected |
| Income test | None. One discount per property |
| Next step-down | 1 January 2027 (the rate falls to 5.7 STCs/kWh) |
The program runs to 2030 and steps down roughly every six months — gradually, not overnight. Waiting a few months changes the discount slightly; it should not be the reason to rush a battery that does not suit your home.
Figures are indicative and depend on eligibility, your system and market conditions. Always check the current program rules before you buy.
Is There a Queensland Battery Rebate?
No — and be careful with anyone who tells you otherwise.
Queensland’s state Battery Booster program closed in May 2024 and was not replaced. In 2026, the main support for Queensland batteries is the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program above. (We compare the stacked rebates state by state in our 2026 Australian solar and battery rebate guide.)
What still matters locally:
- Feed-in tariffs are low. Most south-east Queensland retailers now pay single-digit rates for exported solar, so storing and using your own power is worth far more than exporting it.
- Daytime solar is abundant. Brisbane homes average around five peak sun hours, so a well-sized battery has plenty to store.
- Evening peaks are expensive. Power you use after sunset comes from the grid at full rates — a battery is designed to replace exactly that.
- Choosing a Battery Size Under the New Rules
- Because the federal discount tapers above 14 kWh, oversizing no longer pays the way it used to. The best value sits at or below 14 kWh of usable capacity — which covers most family homes.
- The right size depends on your evening and overnight use, not on the biggest number on a brochure. When we quote a battery, we start from your actual consumption data.
- SolaX and Sungrow both offer modular battery options, so it is often possible to start with the capacity you need now and expand later.

- Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I find a certified solar battery installer near me?
- Check the installer’s accreditation with Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA), confirm the battery is a CEC-approved product, and ask for a local office address. Any installer offering the federal battery discount must meet both requirements.
- How much does a home battery cost after the rebate?
- It depends on the size, brand and install complexity. The federal program takes roughly 30% off the installed cost of an eligible battery — for example, an indicative $2,400–$2,700 off a 10 kWh system as at late 2026. Always ask for an itemised quote showing the discount separately.
- Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?
- Often, yes. The federal discount applies to batteries added to existing rooftop solar, provided the battery meets the size, product and installation requirements. We assess your inverter and switchboard first to confirm the cleanest upgrade path.
- How long does a battery installation take?
- Most residential battery installs are completed within a day, subject to scheduling, metering and network approval.
- Do I have to join a VPP to get the rebate?
- No. Your battery must be VPP-capable to qualify for the discount, but joining a VPP is normally your choice.
