Solar Installers Gold Coast

Solar installers on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast has one of the strongest solar economics in Australia, and one of the most constrained roofs. Strip out Surfers Paradise and you’ll find a lot of coastal homes built in the 1970s and 80s with concrete tiles, tight driveways, low-set construction and very little south-facing roof.

We install across the Gold Coast from Southport through Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta, including the hinterland suburbs where roof space is easier but orientation is often worse. Different suburbs here genuinely need different answers, and a quote that doesn’t ask about your specific street hasn’t asked the right questions.

Concrete tile roofs need a different approach

Most Gold Coast roof tiles are concrete or clay rather than Colorbond. This matters in three practical ways:

  • Mounting method. Tile hooks or rail systems rather than clamps, and the installer needs to check for cracked or weathered tiles before loading the roof with panels.
  • Age of the roof. Many of these roofs were installed in the 70s and 80s. If yours is due for replacement, doing solar now means paying twice — once for removal and re-laying, once for the install. On a roof with more than about 10 years left, it is usually better to replace first.
  • Waterproofing. Every roof penetration is a potential leak if it is not done properly. This is where the workmanship warranty actually earns its keep.

Coastal conditions are harder on equipment

Salt air off the Pacific accelerates corrosion. A coastal Gold Coast install needs:

  • Stainless fixings and corrosion-resistant mounting hardware rather than standard galvanised
  • Equipment with appropriate IP ratings — IP65 or better for anything outdoors
  • A workmanship warranty that covers the installation itself, not just the parts, because coastal corrosion shows up in the steelwork and connections first

Roof space is the real constraint, so panel wattage matters

With limited usable roof, panel efficiency is not a nice-to-have — it is the whole game. This is where higher-wattage modules like the LONGi Hi-MO X10 Explorer 475 W earn their place: 14 of them give you a 6.65 kW array in the footprint where lower-wattage panels would need two or three more rows of roof you do not have.

Evening peak pricing is the target

Between about 4pm and 9pm, grid supply runs 30 to 45 c/kWh on a time-of-use tariff. On the Gold Coast that coincides with the tail of the air-conditioning load and the start of the evening household peak. Battery storage aimed at that window is where the return is concentrated — not shaving the midday surplus.

The federal battery discount applies here

Since 1 May 2026, eligible batteries earn 6.8 STCs per usable kilowatt-hour — roughly $252 to $260 per kWh, or about $2,500 to $2,600 on a 10 kWh system. It is applied directly by your installer, with no application, no income test and no property value test.

Two things to note:

  • The discount is tiered. The first 14 kWh earns the full rate, 14–28 kWh is counted at 60%, and 28–50 kWh at 15%. Most Gold Coast households land best in the 10–14 kWh band.
  • 1 January 2027 the rate drops to 5.7, about 16% less than today.

Queensland’s own battery grant closed in May 2024, so the federal program is the only one available.

Choosing an installer on the Gold Coast

Ask the questions that separate the installers who work on coastal roofs every week from those who do not:

  1. What is your CEC accreditation number, and can I check it?
  2. How do you flash and seal penetrations on a concrete tile roof, and what happens if one leaks?
  3. What hardware do you use for coastal corrosion — stainless or galvanised?
  4. Does your workmanship warranty cover corrosion on the mounting system?
  5. Will you itemise the federal discount as a separate line on the quote?

We are a local team working across the Gold Coast, using LONGi and SolaX equipment selected for having published Australian warranty terms and local support.

Northern Gold Coast: Pimpama, Coomera, Upper Coomera and Helensvale

We cover the northern end of the Gold Coast as part of our normal run, not
as an occasional trip south. Pimpama, Coomera, Upper Coomera and Helensvale
are all served by the same team that handles our Brisbane installs — which
means the person who quotes your system is the person who stands on your roof.

What a coastal roof needs that an inland quote can miss

  • Salt air. Coastal corrosion attacks mounting hardware and
rail fixings long before it affects the panels. We specify appropriately
coated rail and check existing fixings on any roof close to the water.
  • Summer heat. Panel ratings are measured at 25 °C.
A Gold Coast roof in January sits well above that, and the module’s
temperature coefficient is what decides how much of the rated output you
actually see on a hot afternoon.
  • Roof type. The newer estates around Pimpama and Coomera are
mostly tile or metal on single-storey plans, which usually gives a
straightforward array. Established homes in Helensvale more often have complex
rooflines and existing wiring to work around, and that changes the design and
    the price.

Battery-ready from day one

Every system we quote on the Gold Coast is designed so storage can be added
later without replacing the inverter. That is a specification decision made at
the design stage, not a sales line. A non-hybrid inverter has to be replaced
when you add a battery, which turns a straightforward battery addition into a
much larger job.

We install LONGi Tier 1 panels paired with SolaX or Sungrow inverters and
batteries, and we work with both platforms every week. Installation is
CEC-accredited and the workmanship warranty runs for 10 years on the
installation itself. Twelve months interest-free finance is available through
Pepper Money, with $0 upfront and subject to approval and terms.
