Every solar quote includes the word “warranty”, and most of them mean
something quite narrow by it. Here is exactly what covers what, because a
warranty you do not understand is not a warranty.
There are three separate warranties, and they are not the same thing
1. Manufacturer product warranty
This covers the equipment itself failing. The LONGi Hi-MO X10 Explorer module
carries a 25-year product warranty and a 30-year
linear performance warranty under the Australian terms: at least 99%
of rated output in the first year and 88.85% at year 30, with degradation of
0.35% per year from year two onward.
The SolaX inverters carry a 10-year warranty from installation, and the
SolaX Triple Power battery carries a 10-year product and performance warranty
retaining at least 70% of capacity. The Sungrow inverter and SBR battery
platforms carry 10-year terms as well.
These warranties are the manufacturer’s responsibility. We are not the
manufacturer and cannot extend them — we can only supply products that have
them, and lodge the paperwork correctly so they apply when you need them.
2. Workmanship warranty
This is ours, and it is the one that protects the parts of the job nobody
else will stand behind: the penetrations, the rails and clamps, the cable
runs, the switchboard modifications, the earthing, the labelling and the
commissioning.
We provide a 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation.
If something we did stops working, we come back and fix it at no cost. This
covers the actual failure modes that matter — a leaking roof penetration, a
rail working loose, a connection that has degraded because it was not made
correctly the first time.
This is the warranty that actually tells you something about the installer,
and it is the one most solar quotes leave vague.
3. Manufacturer warranty on the workmanship itself
Most manufacturers require installation by an accredited installer as a
condition of the warranty. In Australia that means Clean Energy Council
accreditation. This is not a formality — the certificate that creates your
federal rebate runs through the same accreditation, and using an unaccredited
installer means losing both the rebate and, in most cases, the manufacturer
warranty on a system you have just paid several thousand dollars for.
What is not covered
We are straightforward about this, because a warranty that pretends to cover
everything is worth nothing:
- Physical damage from storms, falling branches, impact or
someone working on the roof without knowing what they are doing. - Unauthorised modification of the system — adding panels
after installation without telling us, changing the inverter settings, or
replacing the inverter with a different model without checking compatibility. - Grid events and outages beyond the inverter’s rating, and
damage from voltage excursions or surges on the incoming supply. - Panel output falling below the performance curve through
soiling, shading or accumulated degradation beyond the warranted rate. Annual
cleaning keeps this negligible. - Consequential loss — lost electricity production, lost
business revenue, or damage to other property. No installer offers this, and
any quote that claims to is not accurate.
How to make sure your warranty is actually valid
- Ask for the CEC accreditation number and check it. It
should be on the quote. - Check the model numbers on the invoice against the
warranty documents. Make sure the warranty register lists the specific module
code, not just the brand. - Keep the paperwork — certificate of compliance, warranty
registration confirmations, the commissioning report, and the final layout
diagram showing where everything is. We hand all of this over at completion. - Keep the installation company’s details. If the installer
disappears, the workmanship warranty is worthless regardless of how good it
was. We have been in business since 2020 and we will still be here.
What happens if something goes wrong
Call us. If it is a workmanship issue, we return and fix it under the
10-year warranty. If it is a manufacturer issue, we lodge the claim on your
behalf and manage it — you should not have to learn their process to get a
replacement panel or inverter.
